The "Ice Ice Baby" singer said a lesson he learned during a time management course in Hawaii influenced his decision not to exercise his right to vote.

"I don't vote because I went to that course, and they said, 'They don't pay you to go vote. They don't pay you to form an opinion of anybody. They don't pay you to go stand in line or drive over there in the car and the gas. And all that time adds up.'"

Vanilla Ice said the instructor then told the class, "You just wasted nine years of your life," before asking attendees whether they would take back that time if they could.

"Everybody raised their hand in the course. And they go, 'Now what would you do?'" Vanilla Ice said before explaining that the instructor asked how they would instead spend the time they used to vote.

The 58-year-old entertainer said the class reminded him that time is precious and that is why he chooses to spend his time doing things he loves rather than voting.

"I could've done so many more things, instead I'm doing that? How did I get lured into that?" he said.

Vanilla Ice said his tendency not to take life too seriously is one of the reasons he stays out of politics.

"Anything I've even said, I don’t take it serious," he said. "This is just food for thought. That's kind of the way I view things."
